Happy Friyay and Happy 1st of December!
Finally you can dig into those mince pies without feeling too guilty. I’ve been celebrating Christmas since the end of June, something I’ve become used to since being a member of press/blogger but I still feel the excitement when the calendar finally rolls around to December and never seem to lose the thrill of seeing the lights all switch on, dressing the tree and of course, devouring all the Christmas gift guides in search of the perfect gifts for loved ones.
In fact, such is my passion for finding the perfect gifts that I’ve compiled my very first La Femme London Gift Guide. (#lflxmas17) I’ve spent 4 months pounding the streets of London from press event to press event (over 50 in total!) dedicated to sourcing the gifts I think you will love. I’ve also tasted dozens of mince pies, drunk various types of Christmas cocktails and worked my way through numerous buffets (it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it) in order to put together a delicious food and drink guide.
Then there’s reviewing the hundreds of products and researching gift ideas online all in the search of narrowing down my selections before spending hour after hour compiling, photographing, and linking the final lists! PHEW, I t’s hard work but I LOVE IT.
I’m delighted to launch these gift guides starting tomorrow, which cover the whole family as well as some special December features such as my Festive Home Fragrance Guide.
For today though, I wanted to share some of the very best of the events I attended, as there were some brands that I feel went to such wonderful efforts to present their Christmas offerings, they deserved a very special mention. I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did.
Food, glorious Food!
Call it the law of Sod but there is something rather ironic about being presented with Christmas feasts during July when you are still trying to slim down for your summer holiday. However, the generosity of some of our hosts during the Christmas in July Press run just can’t be ignored and indulge you just must! Tesco put on a spread suitable for royality and I became too obsessed with their truffle infused cheese! Their puddings also looked and tasted divine.
Carluccio’s put on their usual plentiful Italian feast and boy oh boy was it a goodie! I didn’t stray too far from the plate of their Clemente in Camica £17.95, the most sophisticated of chocolate oranges I’m yet to find, and will be stuffing one of these into everyone I know stockings this year. At Harrods and Fortnum & Mason the mood was unsurprisingly luxurious and tradition and innovation came together in perfect harmony. Incidentally the champagne flowed generously also!
Gracing my centre piece this Christmas Day will be Liberty’s fabric wrapped Christmas Pudding as well as Pierre Marcolini cosmic inspired Santa with two Secret drawers filled with individual planet truffles.
For some retailers, Christmas press days are a unique opportunity to present their collections with a strong vision, it’s a time for the designers to really showcase all the inspirations behind the collections and have some fun! Not on the High Street (NOTH) were one such and they created a wonderland of presents which spilt open for guests to wander in and out of. Molton Brown created stunning London scenery cut from paper and lit up as silhouettes.
Space NK are also masters at attention grabbing presentations and this years offering included 3 themed areas in line with their marketing campaign, each as stunning as the last and filled with fantastic beauty treats, many of them Exclusive to the retailer.
Jigsaw also created a world of different dimensions inspired by their innovative festive collaboration with Rococco chocolates, while over at Next we were given a catwalk show to present the fashions we will all want to be wearing this party season.
At The White Company you entered through a corridor of real trees while twinkling lights set the mood and the smell of their signature winter candle filled the air.
White Stuff offered a giant Yeti for the perfect instagram opportunity and Liz Earle (for me) won most innovative Christmas tree with theirs decorated with real hydrangeas, proving that sometimes you only need a few simple ingredients to make something great.
As if all the stage setting, food & drink were not enough, some brands decided to go even further by offering pampering to give you the opportunity to try the products first hand. Boots, masters in home pampering offered blow drys, manicures from Champneys and facials from Liz Earle.
House Of Fraser gave Gel Mani’s using La Mini Macaron products and Rituals also invited us to their Ayurveda world with specialists to tell your Doshas (energies) while regular readers will already know that Ghost launched their Christmas ranges at the uber trendy Cheeky Nails.
Many of the stores mentioned are recreating these miniature worlds inside their stores this Christmas so you can pop along to feel the magic yourself, and there are loads of great events happening also so check out your favs online for more details.
If you feel you can’t handle the shops then you’ll be pleased to know my gift guides can all be shopped online and I’ve provided all the links to make it super easy, and there’s still plenty of time till the big day for delivery so grab yourself a mince pie, a glass of mulled wine and click away to your hearts content!
