Apparently November and December account for 70% of all annual fragrance sales which doesn’t come as a total surprise as I know it’s when I ask for a special new scent and usually gift one to each family member also. As such I thought I’d put together a little gift guide featuring some of the very best fragrances I’ve fallen in love with recently. I’ve also included some gift sets as it’s always nice to have matching bath/shower products and as well as the usual household designer fragrance names have also added a couple of niche brands. If you are looking for inspiration for the men in your life head over to my Gift Guide for Him which has three fabulous suggestions also.
Designer Fashion Brands:
I love these designer brands who always have the most stunning perfume bottles and innovative advertising campaigns. Having a degree in Fashion & Dress history means that I’m always enticed by a heritage brand also, such as Salvatore Ferragamo and many of these brands featured found fame in the 90’s & Noughties when I was at the peak of my youth so I’ve happy memories of these brands also and love watching the way in which they evolve through scent over the decades to ensure they always represent women now.
Moschino’s Second Fresh Couture scent, this one has a floral scent and the bottle will stand out beautifully on your dressing table. Layer with the Bath & Shower Gel for extra ‘Fresh’-ness
Those old enough to remember the Kate Moss fronted Obsessed Fragrance shot by Mario Sorrenti will recognise that Obsessed is a reference to its original, which went on not only to define the house of Calvin Klein but a whole generation along the way. Those not old enough, will assume, as with all things that they are the first generation to experience it and that Ms Moss, who’s original images appear in the campaign just looks really really good for her age! This scent which comes in both Men’s and Women’s editions combines masculinity with femininity as it’s oriental inspired fragrance which sits a Fougere structure, traditionally used in men’s fragrances, with feminine warmth of creamy musks.
Luna by Nina Ricci is a sweet yet seductive fragrance. Combining Caramel, Sandlewood and Vanilla with Orange Blossom and Wild Berries. The bottle is equally adorable.
Ghost Deep Night Fragrance and Beauty Set £38 The Fragrance Shop
The set comprises of a full sized bottle as well as a handbag sized miniature of Deep Night, an eyeshadow palette, lipgloss, Nail Polish and 3 x brushes. A perfect evening combination.
Blackberry, Neroli, orange blossom and tuberose come together to form this sexy and sophisticated addition to the Signorina family. The black bottle and rose gold detailing are to die for and watch out too for the limited edition bottle complete with shimmering sparkles, while stocks last.
Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum £74 100ml Feelunique.com
Jimmy Choo for me represent utter sexiness and this fragrance does not disappoint! It’s fruity, warm and rich scent combines Indonesian Patchouli, Tiger Orchid, and sweet toffee with green notes.
It is made extra special when purchasing from FeelUnique.com as you can have the bottle engraved with a message, or chose to have an initial in crystals as I have done.
Luxury Niche & Heritage brands:
Celebrity fragances have fallen off the radar a little as we’ve seen the rise of the niche brand coming through. I predict a resurgence soon of the celebrity brand but I’m also predicting they will fall more in line with niche fragrances at a luxury price point. These four brands are game changers. I adore the simplicity of Atelier Blume as much as I adore the iconic yellow box of Acqua Di Parma.
Rosa Nobile Eau De Parfum £78 50ml Acqua Di Parma
Acqua di Parma is, to me the epitome of what a luxury heritage brand should be. Firstly there’s the iconic box and colour. I can not see that shade and not think of ADP. Secondly there’s the bottles, again, all with identical shape for men’s and women’s. This, the latest women’s addition contains Rose, one of my favourite smells as it takes me back to my childhood making perfume from sets in my bedroom, and therefore happiness. My partner however can not abide Rose scents so I don’t usually wear them, however, this is a sophisticated offering with musky, peppery undertones and therefore comes with two thumbs up from him also meaning finally I can wear Rose. Favoloso!
Atelier Bloem ‘William’ Eau De Parfum £160 100ml EXCLUSIVE to Liberty
Atelier Bloem is from the makers of Cult brand Malin & Goetz and is inspired by Bloemenmarkt, Amsterdam’s famed floating flower market. Each of the fragrances in the collection has been inspired by a different floral gathering and, William, contains Neroli Petals, Nectarine and Lavender, combined with Orange Flower, Freesia, Sambac Jasmine, and Blond Wood with undertones of Amber, vanilla, Musk and Sandlewood. It is available Exclusively at Liberty London in the U.K
Vince Camuto ‘Bella’ Eau De Parfum Gift Set 100ml £60 House of Fraser
This stunningly boxed gift set from Vince Camuto comes with a 100ml bottle as well as a body lotion and handbag sized spray on perfume, perfect for handbags. It’s fruity, floriental fragrance is perfect for both day and evening.
Bronnley hold the Royal Warrant and have been making perfume since 1884 when Paris-trained, London-born James Bronnley started the company. I especially love some of the traditional fragrances, which are perfect for older audiences, but, being a heritage brand they have launched a range suited to a younger crowd also, such as this one, Zealous Flower, which contains Pear, Mandarin, pink pepper and Amber. It’s very affordable at just £35 and, if you’ve fallen in love with the scent as I have, you can also enjoy the matching scented candle.
