In search of the Perfect Red Lip….

There is something about the timeless appeal of a red lip that has had me hooked since I was a teen.

As February is the month of love, and as there is such a romantic notion about a red lip, I decided now was the perfect time to update my red lip collection.

You’d be forgiven for thinking you only need one red lipstick, but in truth there’s a whole spectrum of reds to be discovered, reinvented season after season, from bright scarlets to deep crimsons. For me nothing beats the transformative power of a red lip and I love to continue to keep adding to my favourites.

Here are three new beauties that I’ve recently discovered, each a unique masterpiece from the last….

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in “American Doll” £20

Firstly the shade of this is just divine. It’s a deep and intense high pigmented red that comes in a liquid form and sets to a matte finish. For me this made me think of old school Hollywood siren.

The wand helps it glide into place easily for application and the colour feels soft going on. I found it a little drying at first but could counter act this by giving my lips a good moisture boost first with a lip balm. However, it didn’t feel “Cakey” and it stayed absolutely 100% on my lips and not on the cup of tea that followed my application.

Like all of ABH products this lipstick is Cruelty free, though not vegan as it contains beeswax.

Sisley Paris Le Photo Rouge lipstick in Rouge Miami £38

Sisley Paris never fail to impress me with their high end and luxury beauty collections, but this is something super special! Let’s start with the packaging, the animal print black and gold is stunning on its own, but even more special is that each lipstick comes with its own red velvet jacket, which instantly transforms me to Le Piaf or the Moulin Rouge in Paris, both favourites.

Then there’s the lipstick itself. It has an unusually cut tip that helps the lipstick glide on without the need for a lip pencil.

The shade is that of a rich burgundy, which is perfect for evenings or colder days when you want something warning on your skin. It’s super moisturising too owing to its “hydrobooster Complex” which contains microspheres of Hyaluronic acid.

Bare Minerals Barepro Longwear Lipstick in “Cherry” £20

Finally there’s Bare Minerals. Now no one was as surprised as me to find that a brand usually associated with “natural” looking beauty has such an amazing array of bold colours within their lip collection, but this I discovered when I was invited to the launch event the brand recently hosted.

I adore how nourishing this lipstick feels without substituting on intense colour. The scarlet also makes it perfect for daytime wear and it matches really well with lots of outfits. Its also really easy to apply and I’ll often “top up” on the tube etc without a mirror. As such it’s become a firm favourite of mine.
